Vacuum Excavation
Summit operates twenty cutting-edge vacuum excavation units with highly trained craftsmen, prioritizing safety and efficiency to align with our customers’ goals. We excel in soft dig techniques, ensuring minimal risk to underground infrastructure, regardless of project size or complexity. Our certified operators and technicians undergo rigorous training to uphold the highest standards of expertise and safety, earning the following credentials:
• 30-hour OSHA training
• 10-hour OSHA training
• First Aid, CPR and AED certification
• Substation/switchyard station certification
• Trenching/shoring certification
• Nuclear certification
KEY REASONS TO VACUUM EXCAVATE
• Eliminates unwanted damage
• Avoids interruption of vital services
• Reduces the risk of litigation
• Minimizes property disturbance
• Utilizes safer non-entry methods
• Reduces costs associated with re-design or change orders
• Reduces the amount of material to be excavated

METHODS
At Summit we utilize the following two vacuum excavation methods:
Hydro Vacuum Excavation (HVE)
Vacuum excavation is a safe, productive, non-damaging excavation method. Our operators and technicians use pressurized water (1,000 to 2,500 psi @ 7 to 20 gpm) delivered through nozzles designed for specific soil types and applications to break the soil into pieces that can be conveyed by high-flow vacuum into the debris (6 to 15-yard) tank. HVE works in all soil types, including clay and frozen ground, utilizing our onboard water heaters.
Pneumatic Vacuum Excavation (PVE)
Pneumatic excavation utilizes pressurized air (200 psi) delivered through specialized nozzles at high volume (330 cfm) to the ground, which breaks apart the soil so it can be simultaneously transported to the debris (6 to 18-yard) tank. Pressurized air will not damage non-porous materials. This process leaves behind a dry excavation and renders the soil ready for use as backfill.

Equipment
Our fleet ranges from single-axle, 3-yard units, for jobs when a small footprint and agility are needed, to tri-axle, 18-yard units with 1,300 gallons of onboard water capacity when bulk excavation is required. Equipped with high-power blowers, our trucks can produce up to 28” Hg of vacuum power and deliver airflow speeds of 5,300 cfm. This gives Summit the ability to excavate 60’ deep from our remote-operated, telescoping boom, or pull material from 600’ feet away on remote dig applications.
